Larry Herschel Kirk

Larry Herschel Kirk, 84, of Columbus, passed away on February 22, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born in Washington, Indiana on November 3, 1940, to the late Ralph Kirk and Wilma Slaven Kirk. He married Mildred Carol Chestnut on December 22, 1961.
Larry was a fun, hardworking, and loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He worked for Cummins Engine Company for 35 years and Enkei America for 5 years, before retiring. In his free time, he enjoyed going to church at Flintwood Wesleyan, watching sports, some of his favorite teams were the Reds, the Colts, and the Hoosiers, listening to gospel music, and attending and participating in car shows, where he earned numerous trophies for his 1971 Ford LTD. As an avid sports fan, he played softball and bowling during his younger years. Additionally, he loved to travel to Gatlinburg, TN, and visiting the Great Smoky Mountains.
Larry is survived by his wife, Carol Kirk; children, Jeffrey (Melissa) Kirk, and Larry Joe Kirk; brothers, Donald (Carol) Kirk, and Gary (Brenda) Kirk; sister, Vera Sherrow; and grandchildren, Shelley Denise Kirk, Casey Leigh Kirk, Emily Nicole Kirk; and great-grandchild, Owen Jacob Fields.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph, and Wilma Kirk; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Ray and Judy Kirk; and brother-in-law, Jerry Sherrow.
The funeral service will take place at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Jones officiating the service. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Those wishing may make memorial donations through the funeral home to Flintwood Wesleyan Church.

Larry, was a great Christian man I enjoyed working with him at the fabshop at Cummins. We called him Captain Kirk. He always had a smile and was very reserved. Prayers for the family.
