Richard Crowley FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery VISITATION: 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home Leona Louise Darling, 86, of Columbus, went home to be with The Lord, at 12:56 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor. Leona was a past member of First Baptist Church of Columbus where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the second grade ministry. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved life, enjoyed gardening, and watching nature's beauty around her. She patiently waited upon the Lord to provide the sun and rain to transform the many different seeds she planted into flowers, shrubs and trees. A very nurturing mother, she shared her love of God with family, friends and strangers. Born in Inez, Texas, Dec. 12, 1926, Mrs. Darling was the daughter of John E. Jr and Mary Jane Machick Venglar. She married Samuel C. Darling on Feb. 20, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He preceded her in death September 16, 2006. Survivors include sons, Wayne (Marsha) Darling of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Denver (Pamela) Darling of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughters, Barbara Vannoy of Elizabethtown, and Rose (Steve) Ferry of Columbus; sisters, Ellen Kucerra of Edna, Texas, and Lillian Walker of Robstown, Texas; grandchildren, Jerry D. Simpson of Bloomington, Michael Simpson of Greenwood, David Vannoy of North Vernon, Kale Darling of Tustin, Calif., Darrin Ferry of Columbus, Kelly Taylor of Downy, Calif., and Heather Jones of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Owen Vannoy, Hannah, Rachel, Chloe, and Lydia Taylor, Cambria, Cheyenne, Kinsley and Calais Darling, Brooke and Hailey Simpson, and Leah Jones; a son-in-law, Jerry B. Simpson of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon L. Simpson; sisters, Clara Etzel, Bernice Venglar, who died at birth, and Bernice Pecha; brothers, Jasper Venglar, Emil Venglar, George Venglar, Henry J. Venglar, who died in infancy, and Johnny Venglar, who died in infancy; and a son-in-law, Hurstan Vannoy. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Bethel Baptist Church, Columbus, Ind., or First Baptist Church, Christian Education, Columbus Ind.
