Leonard G. Ashcroft Sr., 82, of Elizabethtown, died at 8:33 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at his home. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Ashcroft was the son of William and Barbara Reinas Ashcroft. He married Doris E. Alvertson April 19, 1951. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 2005. Mr. Ashcroft is survived by sons, Mark W. (Tammy) Ashcroft of Elizabethtown, IN, and Leonard G. (Melinda) Ashcroft Jr. of North Vernon, IN; a daughter, Linda A. Eisenmenger of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Justin (Andrea) Ashcroft, Ashley (Chuck) Davis, Jamie (Jon) Deaton, J.T. Eisenmenger, Dylan Sullivan, Mark Ashcroft Jr., Wayne Ashcroft, Devin Ashcroft, Anthony Ashcroft, Cheyanna Heid, Savanah Ashcroft and Andrew Ashcroft; great-grandchildren, Gavin Ackerman, Adryanna Traylor, Jonathan-Trayz Deaton and Kamden Ashcroft; and a sister, Barbara "Sis" Derr of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and five brothers. Mr. Ashcroft was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, hunting, nature walks and watching wildlife and loved watching Westerns and the National Geographic and History channels. He was like a drill sergeant to the grandkids. The world lost the greatest truck driver in the world today. He will be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him. "My Dad is northbound, hammer down going home to meet Mom. We love you Dad and miss you already. P.S. Tell Mom hi and we love her too." SERVICES: FUNERAL - will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Larry McIntosh officiating. Cremation will follow the service. CALLING - will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. MEMORIALS - may be made to Veterans Hospital.
