Lewis Breedlove July 21, 1916 - August 22, 2008 Lewis E. Breedlove, 92, Wildwood Lane, Columbus, Indiana, died at 12:40 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Care Facility. As a young man, Lew Breedlove moved to this area from Mississippi to assist in building Camp Atterbury. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific for 3 years in the Army Corp of Engineers. He returned after the war to his adoptive family, the Ed Hoeltke family in Columbus. He married Bertha Marie Newkirk in 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. They were married 60 years and together raised two children, Barbara and Timothy Breedlove. Lew considered it a blessing to serve his country and community. As owner of Breedlove Homes, 1949-1978, he served a term as President of the Builders Association in Columbus. Breedlove Homes was considered the longest singly owned construction business in our area of its time. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church from inception serving as Trustee for many years. He credited the Lord, hard labor and the power of positive thinking in moving him from great poverty to stability and took delight in telling people of Jesus great love for them. Mr. Breedlove was born July 21, 1916, at Brookhaven, Mississippi, the son of Edward and Earsulie Parker Breedlove. Survivors include a son, Tim Breedlove of Palmyra, Va.; a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Newell of Columbus, Indiana; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tommy (Bonnie Fay) Breedlove of Mobile, Ala. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. VISITATION: Will be Monday, August 25, 2008, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. BURIAL: Will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers Cemetery.
