November 14, 1939 ~ November 14, 2025

Linda Kay Coon, 86, a lifelong Columbus resident, passed away on November 14, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital, surrounded by her children. Mrs. Coon was born on November 14, 1939, in Columbus, the daughter of the late Fred E. and Minnie L. Schuette Zeigler. She married Gary W. Coon, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2017. Linda was employed at the former Bartholomew County Hospital for 17 years as a Switchboard Operator. She also worked as an EMT and taught CPR and First Aid for many years. She was involved in the very first CPR and First Aid class that was offered in sign language. Linda was a devoted member of the Westside Community Church. A resident of Pearl Street for many years, Linda was very content reading the newspaper and “holding court” on her front porch with her fellow neighbors. The Pearl Street Police took their work very seriously! She and Gary enjoyed eating out and considered themselves foodies. They also enjoyed travel; Linda had even traveled on a mission trip to China on one occasion. Her loving family and many friends will forever cherish Linda’s memory. In addition to her parents and Gary, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Coon; a sister, Jennifer Marie Rawlinson; and a great-grandson, Xavier Garay. Survivors include her children, Scot (Lilly) Coon and Amy (Ed) Boston, both of Columbus; a brother, Richard (Floanna) Zeigler of Sunman; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the funeral home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2025. Pastor Dennis Aud will officiate, and burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
