Logan D. Ping October 15, 1915 - October 10, 2010 Logan D. Ping, 94, of Midway Street, died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Ping was born in Hand County, South Dakota, October 15, 1915, to Freeman and Lucy Deuter Ping. His mother, a school teacher, passed away when he was three. He moved to Brown County, Indiana, in 1918, but lived most of his life in the Columbus area. He married Margaret B. Malson October 3, 1936, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She passed away July 20, 2008, after 71 years of marriage. Mr. Ping retired from Courier-Newsom Trucking Company. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Brown County and attended Azalia Friends Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Hoosier Mustang Club and the Model A Ford Club for many years and was an antique car enthusiast. Logan was a World War II Army veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Black Forest. He was missing in action for 2 to 3 days. Mr. Ping is survived by a son, Donald G. (Marialice) Ping of Columbus,; daughters, Linda (Bill) Carothers of Columbus, Sharon (Lonnie) Hembree of Taylorsville, Wanda Deweese of Columbus, and Marlene (Ron) Cross of North Vernon; grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Arvizu, Mark Ping, Jennifer (Dru) Egmont, Curt (Melisa) Carothers, Cindy (Kris) Weisner, Ross (Shelli) Carothers, Tim Hembree and Kenny Hembree, Rob (Brooke) Deweese, Niki Deweese, Rebecca (Chad) Schaffer, Teresa (Rick) Cravens, Ryan (Crystol) Cross and Jaime Cross; and 24 great-grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret on July 20, 2008; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a son-in-law, Bob Deweese. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. C.G. White officiating. CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. BURIAL: Sandcreek Friends Cemetery with military rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
