Louis Arthur DePaul, 59, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born in Youngstown, April 25, 1952, the son of the late Phillip Arthur DePaul and Anna Joyce (Barrett) DePaul. Louis graduated from Youngstown State University in 1977 with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Business Administration. He then graduated from Indiana University, South Bend with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was currently employed at Ivy Tech Community College Franklin Campus, teaching accounting and business as well as worked on promoting growth at the Franklin and Elkhart campuses. Louis was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and volunteered in Seymour, Ind. with VITA through the United Way, helping people with their taxes. Louis was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Carolynn (Prosser) DePaul, whom he married Nov. 28, 1975 and three daughters, Kristen (Matthew) Jung of Tipton, Ind., Heather DePaul of Columbus, Ind. and Theresa (Joseph) Bruno of Indianapolis, Ind. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jacob DePaul, Rocco Louis, Sarah Jung, Elizabeth Jung, Alexander DePaul, Luke Bruno, Lillian Jung and Vincent Bruno; two brothers, Donald DePaul of Columbus, Ohio and Phillip (Jacquelyn) DePaul of San Jose, Calif.; and two sisters, Alice (Jeff) Smith of Broadview Heights and Mary Jo Dolson of Berea. Louis was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Joyce Jung. SERVICES: FUNERAL MASS: Shall be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday February 14, 2012 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Arturo Ocampo officiating. VISITATION: Shall be conducted Monday February 13, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with a Rosary Service being conducted at 7:30 P.M.

  1. My deepest condolences to you for your sudden loss. I knew and worked with Lou for several years; he will be missed.

  2. Very saddened to hear about the loss of Louis DePaul. He was well liked and loved by all that knew him. Personally, he was a big help to me in getting trainings started/promoted on the Franklin campus. My thoughts are with all of his friends and family.

  3. My deepest condolences to you for your sudden loss. I have known and worked with Louis since he came to the Ivy Tech Columbus Campus. I talked with him last week and he said how much he enjoyed his role on the Franklin Campus. He will be missed.

  4. I just met Louis last summer when I started as an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech Community College, Franklin. He was always very kind and helpful to me.

  11. My condolences go out to the DePaul family. I met Louis when I began working at the Columbus campus of Ivy Tech. We spoke often about his grandchildren and his eyes would light up talking about his family. I am pleased to have met him and worked with him. He will be missed tremendously by the faculty, staff, and students of Ivy Tech. Our thoughts and prayers are with Louis’ family.

  13. Luis made such a difference in my life. I was suppose to be a one class student at the Elkhart Campus at Ivy tech. Luis saw something in me and convinced me to go further. So I gave it a try 30 yrs old with a c average high school education. Because of him a became an accountant with a 4.0 GPA with honors. Luis was a great educator and cared deeply about his students his. His death will be a great loss to all future students. Rest in peace Luis you were a great man in the hearts of many Ivy Tech Students.

  15. My sincere condolences to the DePaul family. I met Mr. DePaul at my employment at Franklin Community High School. Mr. DePaul was a kind and gentle soul. He touched everyone he met with his kindness and thoughfulness. He will be sorely missed. God bless him!

  22. My deepest sympathy to the entire DePaul family. How very sad to hear of Lou’s death. I began my career at the South bend campus as ACC program chair in 1996. Lou was a real help in showing me what I REALLY needed to know. I loved his laugh! He will be missed.

Lou helped me like so many others, through difficult times and despite our working positions was always a true friend, confidant and adviser. I feel a hole in my being just knowing he is not there to turn to at least on this earth any longer. Ivy Tech here in Elkhart is special in a large part due to the value and character he brought the campus. It is special even today in part because of the legacy left, no instilled by Lou among us.   26. I first met Lou not long after he came to the Columbus Ivy Tech and I was the coordinator at the Greensburg Learning Center. He was a valuable resource helping me to learn more about Ivy Tech and expanding the course offerings in Greensburg. Lou was a deeply caring man and will be missed by many. My sincerest sympathy to his family.

  27. I was shocked when I read about Lou’s passing. He was a wonderful, generous & caring person. I worked in the office of Ivy Tech in Elkhart and worked with Lou many times. He was always watching out for us (the girls in the office)and making sure we were treated fairly. He was respected & loved by all. He will be greatly missed. My prayers will be with his family in their time of grief.

  32. I had the pleasure of having Paul as an instructor in several of my accounting classes. He was a great man whom spoke of his family and loved to tell a joke or two. He will be greatly missed.
