Private family services will be held for Margie. Margaret G. “Margie” Best, 95, of Columbus, died at 6:32 p.m. August 26, 2019, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Margie was born November 1, 1923, in Nineveh, the daughter of Fred V. and Margaret Keaton Gillaspy. She married Squire T. “S.T.” Best July 16, 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1978. She graduated from Hope High School in 1941. During WWII, she worked at Southern Transportation and District Health Office. In later years she worked at Yula’s Young World Children’s Shop and for five years at Kirlin's Hallmark Store in Fair Oaks Mall before retiring from there. Margie was a member of Hartsville Church of Christ where she had taught a toddler’s class. She also attended First Christian Church in Columbus. She enjoyed reading the Bible prophets, and the prophet Paul’s life and the many epistles he wrote. She enjoyed watching basketball and football games on TV. Margie dearly loved babysitting her two great-grandsons, Ryan and Logan. A private graveside service will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Yeaton officiating; burial will follow. Memorials may be made to Hartsville Church of Christ, the First Christian Church Preschool or the donor’s choice of charity. Survivors include her daughter, Janice K. (Steve) Taylor of Columbus; grandson, Jeffrey (Sara) Taylor of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Logan Taylor; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Squire T. Best; and brother, John Gillaspy and sisters, Mary Gillaspy and Carolyn Speer.
