Martha J. "Mert" Powers May 24, 1961 - April 24, 2009 Martha J. Mert Powers, 47, of Columbus died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Powers was a former employee of Lear Corporation. She enjoyed playing bingo, loved watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, and enjoyed fishing, camping, cookouts and spending time with her family and friends. Born in Franklin May 24, 1961, Mrs. Powers was the daughter of John King and Helen McElroy King VanArsdale. She is survived by sons, Thomas Powers Jr. of Columbus, Curtis Powers of Arizona and Bryan Powers of Columbus; a daughter, Sondra Powers of Columbus; brothers, Larry, Steve and Johnny King, all of Kentucky, Donnie and Lindley Hoppie King, both of Hope; sisters, Kathleen McCarthy of Columbus, Linda Ernest of Anderson, Janet Hughes of Hope and Mary Burris of Columbus; a grandson, Zachary Ketner, and five other grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ronnie, Christopher, David and Timothy King. Funeral Information VISITATION: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home and also Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. FUNERAL: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Jewell - Rittman FAmily Funeral Home with Pastor Lewis Burton officiating. BURIAL: Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, IN.
