Marvin L. Banister August 01, 1918 - December 13, 2010 Marvin L. Banister, 92, of Columbus, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at his daughters home on Elm Street. Marvin attended South Decatur School, graduated from Columbus High School and was in the Indiana National Guard, Company 151, between 1937 and 1940. He was previously employed as a dispatcher for Columbus Township Fire Department and retired from Cummins Engine Company. He played guitar and was a musician with several local bands, was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church and St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 20, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Buddy. Born August 1, 1918, at Alert, Marvin was the son of Dr. Raymond Banister D.V.M. and Addie Leatherock Banister. He married Julia M. Aldrich Dec. 30, 1938. She preceded him in death Oct. 1, 1994. Survivors include a son, Lyman Scott (Roseann) Banister of Columbus; a daughter, Diane (John) Wendel of Columbus; grandchildren, Brent (Amy) Banister of Columbus, Eric (Michelle) Banister of Whiteland and Scott and John Wendel, both of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Banister; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Morris Banister; and sisters, Marguerite Banister and Martha Banister Davis. Funeral Information FUNERAL- 10 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Anne Marshall officiating. CALLING- 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. BURIAL- South Park Cemetery in Decatur County. Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Bartholomew County Humane Society.
