Maureen Teresa Jewell passed from this life at 11:14 am on Sunday, September 4, 2022. She was a resident of Four Seasons Retirement Center. She was born on June 24, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana, in 1956.
She was a massage therapist, yoga instructor, handwriting expert, and respite care worker for Developmental Services, Incorporated in Columbus, Indiana. She was a lifelong Catholic and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church brought her communion regularly during her stay at Four Seasons.
Maureen was a very sociable person who never met a stranger, loved animals, was familiar with most canine species, raising schnauzers for several years. She regularly contributed to the World Wildlife Fund. She also enjoyed caring for special needs children, one of whom gave her her nickname, "Reen."
In retirement, she traveled with her husband to all 50 of the United States and also visited 29 foreign countries. She was most fond of Australia, which she visited five times. She spent most winters in Key West, Florida, where she was active in civic affairs and became a certified "Honorary Conch" as designated by the Mayor of Monroe County, Key West, Florida.
She was devoted to her immediate and extended family and is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ralph L. Jewell; a daughter, Christina Connors of Sweetser, Indiana; a son, Charles Hulett of Anderson, Indiana; a son, Steve Hulett of Boca Raton, Florida; a step-daughter, Amy Jewell of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Jewell of Brownsburg, Indiana; a stepson, Gregory Jewell of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Four Seasons Retirement Home in Columbus on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Calling hours will be from 1 o'clock until the time of the service. Rev. Karen Hargett will be officiating the service. Inurnment at Garland Brook will be at a later date.
Those wishing may make donations through the funeral home to St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church.
