FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery MEMORIALS: Autism Research or the Central Heights Church of God Melvina Joyce Shackelford, 81, of 16th Street, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Kindred Health & Rehabilitation Center. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Walters officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Michael Alton Shackelford of Columbus; a daughter, Susan Rene (Archie) Combs of Guyton, Georgia; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Thompson of Hope, Gearl Thompson of Carrollton, Ky., Dearl Thompson and Donald Thompson, both of Columbus; and a sister, Evelyn Thompson Moore of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Alton Shackelford.
