Michael Alan Henry
September 16, 1953 ~ September 6, 2024
Michael Alan Henry, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend entered into his eternal home on September 6, 2024, at the age of 70, surrounded by his loving family. He was affectionately known as Big Shot by his grandchildren, children, and many others leaving behind a legacy of joy, kindness, and generosity. He was born on September 16, 1953, in Columbus, Indiana, to Virgil Ray and Flora Bingham Henry.
Graduating from Hauser High School in 1971, Mike continued his education at Georgetown College before attending Indiana University. His ingenuity, intelligence, and strong work ethic led him to a rewarding career at Cave Stone/Meshberger, where he dedicated 37 years of service with 25 years as Plant Superintendent. He loved his career and took great pride in being a fair and compassionate boss who delighted in seeing his workers succeed.
Mike’s life was much more than his professional achievements, as could be seen in his unwavering devotion to his wife, Sandra S. Selby Henry. In their 47 years of marriage, he was a loving father to three children and eight grandchildren who were the light of his life. Hunter Ray (Donna) Henry, Brandon Michael (Kayla Jo) Henry, and Hayley Jean (Tim) Cox, all of Columbus. Grandchildren: Hayden, Scarlett, Harper, Titus, Colt, Oliver, Remi, and Saylor. He leaves behind his brother Larry (Glenda) Henry, a sister-in-law Trudy (Dennis) Ferry, a beloved aunt Jean Stowell, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger Henry.
Mike attended the First Church of the Nazarene for many years. He was known for his unwavering support at his grandchildren’s sporting events, and his enthusiasm for horse racing, gardening, and travel. Big Shot could often be seen cruising around the neighborhood on his 3-wheeled electric bike, a sly grin ever present.
Big Shot's love, laughter, and gentle spirit will forever echo in the lives of his loved ones, a testament to a life well lived. Michael Alan Henry's story is not one of sadness, but a celebration of a man who truly understood the essence of love and family.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Jewell–Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services Thursday.
