Mildred Evelyn Williams

Mildred “Milly” Evelyn (Bailey) Williams passed away Monday morning August 29, 2022, at Four Seasons Retirement Center, Columbus, Indiana. Until she entered the hospital in July of 2022, she had never been in a hospital except for the births of her six daughters. Formerly of Indianapolis, Milly was born on May 26, 1930, to Willa Mildred (Sammis) Bailey Smith and Paul Jackson Bailey. Milly was in the graduating class of 1948 at T.C. Howe High School Indianapolis and then attended nursing school. Milly married her high school sweetheart, Ronald “Ronny” Charles Williams on November 22, 1949. They shared 62 years of adventures and marriage until his death in May 2012. They raised six daughters together! She worked in health care in her own home for 15 years. Outside of the house, she volunteered with Community Hospital East and later worked for Indiana National Bank as a supervisor in the Mortgage Loan Department. She was a member and officer of the Indiana Business Women’s Association. After raising a family and pursuing a professional career, Milly enjoyed 30 years in retirement. During her retirement years, Milly read several novels each week and never missed a Pacers game. Survivors include her younger brother, David S. Bailey (Beverly) of Phoenix, AZ, daughters Laura Keller (Robert) of Seattle, WA, Jane Williams Ferris (Donald), Ruth Goode (Roy) of Columbus, IN, and Carol Williams Touw (Dan), Indianapolis. She also has eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Milly was preceded in death by her husband, Ronny, in 2012, and daughters Marcia Evelyn, 1972, and Barbara Ellen, 1971. A Celebration of Life graveside service and burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Milly’s favorite charity: Feeding America/Gleaners Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
