Myriam “Mickie” Socorro Ortiz, 73, of Columbus, died at 9:10 a.m. on December 31, 2025 at her home surrounded by her beloved family. She was born a proud Boricua (Puerto Rican) on December 25, 1952 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Leoncio Ortiz and Maria Teresa (Gonzales) Ortiz. Mickie loved her family fiercely and enjoyed taking care of them. She would cook and feeding them was a joy for her. She enjoyed plants, music, dancing and watching T.V. Caso Cerrado was one of her favorite shows. She was a style icon – always looking her best and matching from head to toe. She wanted others to look good too, as her grandson remembers her ironing his socks because she was so particular! She was happiest when spending time with her friends and family at get-togethers and visits. She never ever forgot a birthday! If she knew you, she new your birthday! She was very organized and particular, even packing for trips 2 months ahead of time. Some things her family remembers her sayings are: “I love you son – You’re my boy” “Never move faster than your guardian angel.” “Cuco!” “Is a frog’s butt water tight?” “(I love you more than) the sand and the stars!” Her love, wit, and humor were unmatched. She will forever be missed and loved by her family and friends. The impact she made on those who knew her is immeasurable. The funeral service for Mickie will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2025 at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Otero and Tim Goldsmith officiating. To honor Mickie’s wishes, cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made directly to Tailyn Funches.
