Former bookstore owner Naomi Roberta Mahoney, 88, of Midway Street, died at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Mahoney was a 1940 graduate of Milan High School and was a wife, mother and homemaker through her life. She married Loyd George Mahoney of Kokomo, IN, June 26, 1948. Before they were married, Loyd was a veteran of the Second World War. After Loyd's passing, November 4, 1971, she worked at Cummins Engine Company from 1976 to 1982. She and her son Jim owned and operated the former Cummins Book Store in Columbus, IN, from 1987 to 1998. She was of the Christian faith. Born in Batesville Sept. 3, 1922, Mrs. Mahoney was the daughter of John Rufus and Alma Pearl Ruble Rice. She is survived by close friends, Lester and Joann Peters of Columbus, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Alan Mahoney, who passed January 28, 2005; and a sister, Mariam Lucille Rice Lamkin, who passed Feb. 11, 2001. FUNERAL - will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. CALLING - will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday. BURIAL - will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Craven Cemetery in Milan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
