Norma Jean (Weaver) Cherry, 82, a longtime Columbus resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026. Norma was born on August 19, 1943, in Cincinnati Ohio, to the late Herman and Martha Weaver. She married the late Clyde D. Cherry, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1989.
Known for her smile and friendly spirit, Norma Jean was a faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus for many years. Norma expressed her love of flowers and enjoyed the beauty they brought. Norma Jean enjoyed life to its fullest, creating many fond memories with her loving family, church family and many friends. She was known to have a love for her pets including several cats and a dog Abby. Norma had and enjoyed a vast music collection, including some of her favorite artists Jim Reeves, Elvis, and Daniel O’Donnell.
In addition to her parents and Clyde, Norma Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Truman Weaver of Columbus.
Survivors include one brother, Ronald Weaver of Columbus and one sister, Diana Shannon of Avon, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory, 3855 25th Street, Columbus. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., with Rev. Bob Langdon officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. My sincere condolences to Norma’s family and friends. Norma had the sweetest smile and personality. We attended Fellowship Baptist Church together years ago. Norma would take me to her mother’s for Sunday lunch. We had some good times together.
