Norris "Toro" Allen Nowlin

VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday July 9, 2015 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home MILITARY HONORS: 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Norris Nowlin grandchildren educational fund through the Old National Bank Norris Allen "Toro" Nowlin, 70, of Hunter Place, died at 7:31 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Norris was born November 28, 1944 in Cincinnati, the son of Ned Norris Nowlin and Mildred Liddle Nowlin. He married Mary Jill Heckman. After Mary's death, he married Carol Stier in 1995. Norris was raised in Versailles, Indiana. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Army and completed a stint as a drill sergeant before attending Ball State University. Norris was in sales most of his life. After retirement, he attained skills as a jewelry maker and stained glass craftsman. Most recently he had developed an interest in gardening on a large scale. Norris was an avid skier and served on ski patrol; he also played volleyball in his younger years. Norris was a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge #150 and the American Legion in Versailles as well as the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Survivors include his daughter, Kristin (William C.) Apger of Mebane, NC; stepsons, Greg (Jennifer) Stier of Westfield, IN and Brian Stier of Columbus; stepdaughters, Barbara (Josh) Ford of Hanover, Patricia (Robert) Ciresi of Richfield, OH and Nicole (Ben) Hughes of St Joseph, MI; a sister, Mary (Durwin) Hallgarth of Hanover; and grandchildren, Katilyn Nowlin, Guy Ross, Nicholas Nowlin, Annabelle Apger, Samantha Apger, William D. Apger, Emmalee Stier, Isaac Stier, Elle Ford, Annalise and Sophia Ford, Cecilia and Salvatore Ciresi, Vincent, Mary Ann and Alex Hughes, and Ashlyn and Madison Kilgore.






I am so sorry, Mary. I will be on my way to Seattle Thursday to see my son and his family. You know he was my “bud” during all those jrhigh/high school days and shortly after. He was a great guy!
What a great, unique, and wonderful person. Toro was truly one-of-a-kind. He will be be sorely missed and long remembered by many. Danny
