Ottis Miller, 66, Taylorsville, passed from this life on September 1, 2011, at 2:15 p.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility, with his family at his side. Born January 12, 1945, in Letcher County, Kentucky, he was the son of Ernest and Hattie (Cornett) Miller. He married Janet Saunders of Shelbyville on September 8, 1968. They would have celebrated their 43rd year together this year. Ottis moved with his family to Columbus at the age of ten and graduated from Columbus High School in 1964. He was a star football player his senior year at Columbus High School for which he was very proud. He worked his entire life in the Tool and Die business, working for Hartup Tool and Die, Peco, Progressive Tool and Die, Werco, and retiring from Overton & Sons in Mooresville in 2006. He owned his own business "Miller Heating and Air." He was an excellent carpenter. He was always ready to help anyone in need. Ottis coached Little League and loved outdoor sports especially football and fishing. He loved going on fishing trips with his family. He was happiest attending activities with his children and grandchildren. Surviving him is his wife Janet, who has tirelessly cared for him through his long battle of six years of diabetes and cancer. Also surviving are three children, Scotty (Amy) Miller of Taylorsville, Troy (Karina) Miller and Joddi Miller, all of Columbus; brothers, Victor (Nadine) Miller of Ogilville, Lawrence (Elizabeth) Miller of Jonesville, Wallace (Brenda Jines) Miller of Elizabethtown, Bill (Connie) Miller of Columbus and Jim (Robina) Miller of Ogilville; sisters, Juanita Elkins and Earnestine (Lester) Havron, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Zachary and Kayden Miller; and his mother-in-law, Lucy Saunders of Shelbyville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Ottis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Hattie Miller; a sister, Maleda Jean Gibson; an infant brother, Eddie; and his father-in-law, Arthur Saunders. FUNERAL: Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on 25th Street Wednesday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Marvin Arnett officiating. BURIAL: Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. CALLING: Tuesday, September 6, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
