Patricia Ann Bonnell, 76, of North Talley Road, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at her home. Patricia was born January 27, 1940, in Bloomington, the daughter of Paul Edwin and Ann Marie Harlow Lentz. She married L. Richard Bonnell August 30, 1958, and he preceded her in death. She was united to James Robert Leahy, who survives her, October 14, 2012, in a commitment service. Patricia drove a Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation bus for 35 years. She was an active member of the family farm, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served on the Bartholomew County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, was a member of the Red Hat Society and a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi, Alpha Omega Phi and Master Alpha Zeta sororities. Patricia had also been a member of Future Grandmothers Home Extension Club (FGC) since 1964. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, through the funeral home. Survivors include her sons, Paul David (Lecia) Bonnell and Richard Scott (Lois) Bonnell, both of Columbus; daughter, Kathy Jo (William) Hardin of Columbus; sister, Paula Leahy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael Bonnell, Emily Bonnell, Ashley Bonnell, Colin Bonnell, Samantha Hardin and Paul (Amanda Shipley) Hardin; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Hardin and Cassidy Ann-Marie Hardin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L. Richard Bonnell; and a sister, Linda Sutton.

  1. Scott, we are so sorry we won’t be able to attend your mother’s viewing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of grief. As always if there is anything you need please don’t hesitate to call.

  2. Mrs. Bonnell safely drove my brother and I to Petersville Elementary for many years in the 70’s. I remember she would treat us to a snack at the end of the school year at the little gas station off SR 46. My condolences to her family.

  3. I remember Pat as my school bus driver in the 90’s. My sincerest condolences to Colin and the entire Bonnell family. Pat was a very nice lady and I know she will be missed by her family and friends. Peace to you all.
