Dr. Ray Hart Detraz, 87, of Columbus, husband of Norma I. Detraz, died May 3, 2019, at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center. Ray was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, August 24, 1931, to Raymond Louis and Hazel Morillon Detraz. He married Norma I. Vester on September 12, 1984. Ray was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Indiana University and had his commercial pilot’s license. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years before beginning his 50 year career as an optometrist. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Harrison Lake Country Club, Sahara Grotto, Moose Lodge #398, Blue Lodge #20, Elks Lodge #521, the American Legion #24 and the Kiwanis Club. The funeral will be conducted Monday, May 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday immediately following visitation. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum. A military memorial service will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. He is survived by his wife Norma I. Detraz, and was preceded in death by his parents.
