  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Judging by the kind of teacher he was, I can only imagine what a great father he would have been. Thank you Mr. Dilk!

  2. I didn’t know Ray until I came to work at Tovey Shoes. I was a young person working summers while in college. Now, over 30 years later, I still remember his nurturing character. He left quite an impression on my life. I’m sincerely sorry for your loss.

  3. Mr. Dilk was a pleasure it was to have had him as a guidance counselor at Southside.. He was always so jolly…. His love for teaching children was definately from the heart… and then when he began working at Tovey’s I always tried to have him or Gene to wait on me.. Now him and Gene are in Heaven together talking about how they served families in multitude of ways… So sorry for your loss.. but Heaven is so blessed with a new Angel… God Bless

  4. Ruby and Family. So sorry to hear about Raymond’s passing. My two brothers,Mike & Danny and myself all worked with Ray at Schiff shoes,in the 60’s. We all started out in high scool working with Ray and I even worked as assistant Manager at Eastbrook Plaza for awhile after graduating. Ray was a good mentor not only as a fellow worker but as a teacher. He always had a story to tell and a laugh that kept working with him a pleasure. Again my condolences in his passing,Gary Johnson

  5. What a wonderful man. I worked many years with Ray and bought some pairs of shoes from him. He will truly be missed. God Bless you Ruby.

  6. To the Family We don’t know each other, and I understand just how overwhelming this is for all you.But you were blessed with a long time with him before having to say Good Bye,which I know still is not easy by any means.Mr. Dilk as I knew him for Three years at Southside Junior High School. From 1977 thru 1979 as my Guidance Counselor. He left Quite an Impression on me. He taught me to listen rather than rush to conclusions,to try to give people benefit of the doubt and he also told me to Remember men often become what they believe themselves to be. These things I learned from him were not told to me, rather they were shown to me BY EXAMPLE by the way he treated me.He by far was my most Influential Teacher ironically he technically never was my teacher.Just to set the record straight,I was not the straight A student you might think by what I have said,I was a C student. I made more trips than most to his office and on a couple of those occasions He had to introduce me to the Board of Education. Which was not by his choice but rather mine as I told him my father told to except the consequences for my actions at school at school and for me there was not a choice of three days or three whacks. And I truly believe it was harder on him, than was on me. I just wanted to share my experience of knowing him,he truly was a GOOD MAN ! Even though you’re left with a heartache that seems impossible to heal, His life has filled you all with wonderful memories that not even death can steal. Jeff Henson That short poem just came to me out of the blue I hope you find strength in it.

  7. Dear Mrs. Dilk, Karen and Gary: I have many fond memories of Mr. Dilk–starting with early growing-up years in Circle Terrace. It was always fun to see him later at Tovey Shoes. The Bartons Kevin, Ann (Kutch), J.T., Tricia

  8. Mr. Dilk was my science teacher from 1967-1968 at Central Junior High School. He was always helpful and a good teacher.

  9. Sorry this is late, however, i just received notice a short while ago of the passing of Mr. Dilk. I had him as a teacher at Kent School (now ABC Stewart) for several years. As I ponder to those days, I recall him as a firm but yet kind teacher. He treated the other teachers and students with respect and in return he received respect. I am proud that I was one of the students he taught. Mr. Dilk will sadly missed.

  10. Dear Ruby and Family, In my retirement speech at Columbus East I said that if I had to pick someone other than my real father to be my dad it would have been Ray Dilk, and I meant every word of it. When I started my job as Dean at CEHS Ray was there to teach me. He taught me about caring for students, how to be understanding yet firm, how to be flexible, yet impart responsibility, and most of all treat everyone with respect. Ray was fun to be around, slow to anger, quick to laugh. He was kind, considerate, a great co-worker, and a first rate educator. He wore his love for his wife Ruby and his children proudly and for all to see. To this day he was, and is, the finest man I have ever known. I wish I could have said”goodby”, but I will never forget Ray Dilk. With all my sympathy, Jim Wilhelm
