Scalf, 76, of Washington Street, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born in Bartholomew County, August 29, 1936, the son of the late Harold E. Scalf and M. Elizabeth "Betty" Beshear Scalf. He married Joyce A. Bradley on March 6, 1971, who survives. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1996 after 40 years of service. He was a member and past president of the Diesel Workers Union. He was a graduate of Indiana University and a volunteer tutor at McDowell Adult Education Center and Big Brother. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his sons, Richard D. "Rick" (Priscilla) Scalf Jr., of Columbus, and Michael E. Scalf of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Laura K. (Dan) Klepper of Franklin, Tenn.; brothers, Harold L. (Evelyn) Scalf of Chubbach, Idaho, and William E. (Colleen) Scalf of Rockford, Mich.; sisters, Barbara Sue (Kerry) Jones of Cedar City, Utah, and Judy (David) Lee of Kanab, Utah; and grandchildren, Richard "Rick" Scalf III of Columbus, Virginia A. "Ginger" Scalf of Columbus and Erica M. Scalf of Amarillo, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert A. Scalf.
