Richard M. "Rick" May
October 2, 1949 ~ February 12, 2025
Richard M. May, known fondly as Rick to family and friends, passed away in Columbus, Indiana on February 12, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 2, 1949, in Oak Park, Illinois, Rick was a man known for his loving heart, generous spirit, and steadfast faith. After graduating from high school, Rick served his country proudly in the Air Force and later in the Army National Guard.
Rick spent his life as a dedicated truck driver, a career that mirrored his love for the open road. A respected member of the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waymansville, he was deeply involved in his community, offering his time and spirit to various church activities. He was a man who rarely missed a Sunday service, and his presence was a testament to his strong faith.
In his leisure, Rick was a collector of trains and trucks, finding joy in the intricate details and histories of his models. He especially loved watching his westerns. His adventurous spirit was often seen as he rode through the countryside in his Jeep, his eyes reflecting the freedom of the road. Family gatherings, especially Sunday suppers, were the highlight of his week—a time of laughter, storytelling, and the creation of cherished memories.
Rick is survived by his loving wife Lynnette (Mahl) May; his daughter Colleen (Roger) Hughes; sons Michael (Cindy Anne) May and Matthew (April) May; brothers Larry (Cindy) May and John (Donna) May; as well as his adored grandchildren Chase, Brayden, Cody, Alex, Miley, Mackenzie, Tristan, Danica, Isabella, Kaylee, Hunter, Tucker, and Bentley May. He now joins his parents Richard W. May and Mary Rose May, and daughter Vanessa Jill May, in eternal rest.
Rick's legacy is etched in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. A loving husband, caring father, cherished grandfather, and devoted brother, Rick will be remembered for his generous nature and a life rich in faith and love.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Rick will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waymansville with Rev. Erik Sorenson officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends are invited to the visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rick to the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.
