Rickey Dean Cook
October 3, 1954 ~ August 9, 2022
Rickey Dean Cook, 67, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Ricky Dean was born October 3, 1954, in Columbus, the son of Leonard Junior and Christine McCarty Cook.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a patriot his entire life. Rickey Dean will always be remembered for his enthusiasm for Halloween and for filling his yard with haunted houses and mazes for the community to enjoy. He enjoyed photography, genealogy, teasing people’s brains with riddles, collecting antiques, or anything of historical relevance, including his old toy collection, and was a “jack of all trades”, being able to fix anything his family brought his way. He always appreciated the beauty of nature, and the gifts God gave us in it. Most of all, Rickey Dean will be remembered for his kindness and care for others. He never met a stranger and loved meeting new people. He will be dearly missed.
Rickey Dean is survived by his daughter Mandy (Andrew) Alexander of Columbus; a son Brian Quillen of Shelbyville; grandchildren Carissa Shayee (Jeremiah) Kern of Columbus, Blake C. Castro of Columbus, Kira Lynn-Marie (Tyler Fields) Welsh of Franklin, Caitlyn Denise Shane of Columbus, Liberty Quillen, and Torie Quillen both of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren Ava, Rio, and Abbott; sisters Connie L. Sexton and Marcia K. “Sparky” Wiltsey; as well as a brother Marcus R. Cook; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2022, at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home. The Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard will perform military Rites. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

I met Rick when I took a job at Rick Graham Homes back in 1995. We became friends quickly and have remained friends ever since. I was deeply saddened to hear he had passed. RIP my friend. Diane Pensgard.
Rick was a good friend with an endless amount of jokes to tell. We had worked together for over 25 years at Baird Homes and he was very appreciated. Continued prayers for his family and friends. Sincerely, Chris Beverly
I miss you so much daddy. I’m doing better on the outside but really I’m just getting better at hiding it. 💜💜
