Robert D. Battleson June 14, 1928 - March 26, 2009 Robert D. Battleson, 80, of 31st Street, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Robert graduated from Greenville High School in 1946 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950. Robert was a first lieutenant in the United States Army. He retired from Arvin Industries after 36 years where he was an industrial engineer and worked in management. He was Director of Finance for the Wabash Conference in Camby, Indiana for 12 years. Robert was a member of Columbus Free Methodist Church and served as treasurer for 56 years and served as a delegate of the Wabash Conference for over 50 years. He also served on many committees and boards. He was a speaker and member of Gideons International for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer. Robert was born June 14, 1928, in Danville, Ill, the son of Benjamin F. and Mae Corson Battleson. He married Mary Ferguson in June 1950, she passed away in Jan. 1969. He married Doris A. Selders in June 1972, she passed away in April 1984. He married Beth Tame in Dec. 1984, she passed away in Oct. 2001. He then married Nancy E. Arensmann Feb. 16, 2002, she survives. Survivors include sons, David (Nancy) Battleson of Greenville, Il and Dale (Debby) Battleson of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Donna (Robert) Yardy of Mahomet, Il; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Battleson and a sister, June Slocum. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Columbus Free Methodist Church, 1511 22nd Street with the Revs. Lane Loman and Chet Martin officiating. GRAVESIDE SERVICES: 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. VISITATION: 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the church. 9 to 11:15 a.m. Central Time Tuesday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, Ill.
