Robert Earl Jessie, a cherished family man and respected member of the Columbus, Indiana community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 30, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on May 8, 1951, in Columbus, where he would spend his entire life, Robert's presence was a constant source of joy and stability to those who knew him.
Robert was the beloved husband of Linda Jessie, with whom he shared a life full of love and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to his children, Robert A. Jessie, Brian (Amanda) Jessie, and Shana (Eugene) Wells. His legacy continues through his 17 grandchildren, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and guidance, though they will carry his memory in their hearts always. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Ernest T. Jessie and Alma Pedigo Jessie, his sister, Mary L. Starkes, and his grandchild, Addison Whitlock.
He was a brother to Jimmy (Patty) Jessie, Randall (Carolyn) Jessie, and Linda (Russel) Hardin. His siblings will remember Robert for his unwavering support, infectious laughter, and the countless memories they shared throughout the years.
Robert retired from a fulfilling career with the Bartholomew County School Corporation, where he took pride in his custodial work and the relationships he built over the years. His colleagues knew him as a hardworking and reliable individual, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for semi-truck shows, which he attended with enthusiasm, sharing his love for the open road with fellow enthusiasts. Robert's connection to nature was evident in his love for just being outside.
His feline companion, Mickie, was a source of comfort and friendship, often found by his side as he relaxed at home. A dedicated Kentucky Wildcat fan, Robert's spirit and loyalty to his team were unmatched. He relished the opportunity to travel, particularly to Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine and the break from his Indiana roots.
Above all, Robert was a family man and a loving husband. His commitment to his loved ones was the cornerstone of his life. His unwavering dedication, gentle demeanor, and infectious smile will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Collett officiating. Calling hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Reeves Cemetery located at 3560 Valley Branch Road Nashville, Indiana, immediatly following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.
