Keith Ross FINAL RESTING PLACE: Bethel Baptist Cemetery VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home Robert Eugene "Gene" Cross, 74, of Seymour, died at 1:51 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Gene retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1988. He enjoyed carpentry, built play houses for the children, enjoyed taking the grandkids out to play and loved working outdoors. He was a member of Columbus Moose Lodge. Gene was generous to anyone in need. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Ross officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Born in Clay County, Tenn., June 3, 1938, Gene was the son of John Henry Cross and Mae Likens Cross. He married Wanda Marie Williams July 24, 1965. She survives. Surviving with his wife of 47 years are sons, David (Julie) Swaney and Richard (Kathy) Swaney, both of Seymour, IN; daughters, Anita Godsey of Columbus, IN, and Joyce Furkin of Seymour, IN; sisters, Glenda (Paul) Holtzlider of Columbus, IN, Linda Jolly of Seymour, IN, Wanda (James) Pickett of Columbus, IN, and Vonda Woods of Trafalgar, IN; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jerry Lee Cross, Terry Lee Cross and Robert Eugene Cross II; brothers, Paul Cross, Alvin Cross and Dennis Cross; and a sister, Opal Haggadone.
