Robert J. Smith
April 25, 1935 ~ March 19, 2019
Robert J. Smith, 83 of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. He loved spending time with family and friends, watching Purdue basketball, traveling, reading books of all kinds, and watching old movies. “Bob” loved nothing more than spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids- he had an open door policy at his house and would always say “There’s always room for one more!” He was a lover of life and truly lived his life to the fullest. Prior to his passing, Bob said “I think I’ve done it all…I am so pleased with the way my life turned out.” He will be greatly missed. Robert Smith was born April 25th, 1935, in Richmond, Indiana, to Joseph and Judith Smith. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Pharmacy and retired after working in the field for 50 years. He married Sandra P. Smith April 19th, 1973. Robert is survived by daughters, Kimberly (Russell) Pate of Louisville, Shannon (Lance) Stutzman of Columbus, and Michelle Sipes of Greenwood and sons, Ryan (Kristi) Smith of Indianapolis, Scott Smith and Joel Smith, both of Kokomo; sister-in-law, Marsha Gears; several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Judith Smith; his wife, Sandy Smith; son, Robert Smith Jr.; and sisters, Janet Siess, Sandra Smith, and LeeAnn Smith. A private ceremony will be held for the family at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery. Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Bob on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Upland Pumphouse located in Columbus from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert J.
