Roy Evan McConnell, 61, of Columbus, Indiana passed away on June 25, 2024, at home with his loved ones by his side. Roy was born on June 29, 1962, in Muskegon, Michigan to Harry and Marian (Rawson) McConnell. He moved to Jackson, MI as a young boy, was a 1980 graduate of Northwest High School, and went on to be a graduate of Michigan State University.
He had an almost 40-year career in the health insurance industry, working for several carriers and third-party administrators throughout the USA. Roy had the ambition and vision to begin his own partnership cost containment company for 15 of those years affording him the flexibility to be more present when his young family was growing. His drive and tenacity to advance and broaden his work experience brought him to the delivery side of healthcare as a director with Deaconess Health System in Evansville, Indiana. His personal mission to improve processes, add value, and be a thoughtful leader afforded him many successes. His appropriately self-assured personality fostered many partnerships and joint ventures resulting in his last career adventure with SIHO Insurance as their Vice President of Health System Development and their Executive Lead on the MyTru Advantage Medicare Plan for several Indiana health systems.
While not working, Roy enjoyed weightlifting daily and was an incredible sports fan, particularly college football and hockey. His passions were his family, cooking for them, and craft beer.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathleen (Stanley), children Evan (23) and Aislin (14); his brother Philip (Patricia) McConnell, and sister Karan Tomlinson. Nephews that grew up like brothers, Tim (Susan), Scott (Jeff), and James (Jennifer) Tomlinson. Roy was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Marian, brother-in-law, Robert Tomlinson, and two sisters; Mary Lartz and Verna McConnell.
Roy filled a room with his lively personality and dry humor. He will be deeply missed by many friends and family.
We will be celebrating Roy’s life on what would have been his 62nd birthday, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St, Columbus, IN.

How that big smile brightened up a day will always be in my mind as I look across Washington Street from SIHO. Roy’s easygoing manner and quick chats gave me insight into the love he had for his family. Kathie and children, I’m praying for your strength and peace as you walk on. Roy would want you to follow your dreams and be happy. – Kim Stringer
