Rudolf Czerny

Rudolf “Rudi” Czerny, 89, of Columbus, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at 12:45 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born August 8, 1927 in Radautz, Romania to the late Raimund and Leontine (Lazuskiewick) Czerny. He married Hermine Leonhardt in 1950 in Germany. Rudi, Hermine and their daughters Sigrid and Brigitte immigrated to the United States in 1956. They settled in Indianapolis where their son David was born. Rudi retired as a chief engineer from Marion County General Hospital. There will be a private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 28, 2017 in Memorial Park Cemetery Indianapolis, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana 2323 17th Street Columbus, Indiana 47201. Rudi is survived by his daughters, Brigitte (Richard) Halvorsen of Columbus and Sigrid Herrington of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Matthew (Rachelle) Byron, Justin Byron, Dillon Czerny, Michael Czerny, Michele (Jason) Schrader, Rachel (Jim) Vaughan, Ryan (Jesse) Heines and Ashley (Samuel) Trisler; seven great-grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Rudi was preceded in death by his wife, Hermine on December 5, 2016; son, David Czerny in 2012; his parents; a brother, Johann “Hans” Czerny and a sister, Anni Knoerr.






Grandpa we love you and will miss you every day.
I had the very good fortune of knowing Rudy and working with him at Wishard in the 80’s and 90’s. He was a wonderful man and taught me so much about both mechanics and life. I enjoyed playing golf with him, fishing with him, and just being and talking with him. He was a great example of how to enjoy life !
Brigitte, I was very sorry to read about the death of your father. It sounds like he led a very interesting life. My sincere condolences. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
