Russell Andrew Hurt Jr., 66, of Columbus, IN, died at 9:59 am September 24, 2019, at his home. Russell was born November 11, 1952, in Lebanon, Kentucky, the son of Russell Andrew and Violet Marie Miller Hurt Sr. He married Betty Jean Wall on March 23, 2003. Russell enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved fishing; he also took great joy from shopping at local festivals and spending time with his grandchildren. Russell will be missed by all who knew him. The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. September 27, 2019 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Boston officiating. Calling will be from 10:00am until time of service. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Methodist Cemetery Ogleville, IN. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions made to the Wounded Warrior Project through the funeral home. Survivors include His mother Violet Hurt of Columbus, wife Betty, son Jeramy (Brittany) Goodnight of Columbus, daughter Wendy ( Darren) Rutan of Columbus, sister Wanda Decker of Columbus grandchildren Grant Goodnight and Maddi Rutan, Several nieces and Nephews including Tom Couch, Jackie Midkiff and Jacob Couch. He was preceded in death by his Father.

Born in Metcalfe County, Ky., June 14, 1924, Mr. Hurt was the son of Hubert and Hulda Williams Hurt. He married Violet Marie Miller. Survivors include his wife; a son, Russell Andrew (Betty) Hurt Jr. of Columbus; a daughter, Wanda Ann Decker of Columbus; grandchildren, Thomas Lee (Penny) Couch, Wendy Dawn (Darrin) Rutan and Jeramy (Kristi) Goodnight; and great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Nicole Couch, Jacob Scott Couch, Madison Rose Rutan and Grant Duvall Goodnight. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Josh Hurt; and sisters, Alice Fields, Eula Neal, Ivy Jolley and Lottie Meadors.
