Born in South Bend on April 2, 1946, Sandra was the daughter of Conrad E. Calmer Sr. and Margie Carter Calmer. She married Stewart C. Smith on September 21, 1968. Sandra graduated from Riley High School in South Bend in 1964. She was previously employed by the South Bend Tribune, Irwin Union Bank and East Side Veterinary Clinic. She was an animal lover and enjoyed sewing, dancing and traveling. Sandra would help everyone she could and especially enjoyed time with her family. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Stewart; a son, Patrick (Kristy) Smith of Columbus; a daughter, Carolyn (John) Schafer of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren, Alisha Pluris, Karmyn Smith, Bradyn Smith, Cayley Schafer and Cara Schafer; a brother, Conrad (Arleen) Calmer Jr. of Reddington; and a sister, Cathy (Steve) Hancook of West Lafayette.
