Fields, 86, of Columbus, died at 5:53 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Covered Bridge Health Community in Seymour. She was born in Edmonton, Kentucky, June 26, 1926, the daughter of the late George and Alberta Shirley Knight. She married Carlos E. Fields on Oct. 17, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2002. Selma previously worked at Hamilton-Cosco and was a farm wife and mother. She attended New Life Baptist Church. Selma was an avid reader and quilter. She made and donated many quilts for the Pregnancy Care Center. She is survived by sons, Ronnie Fields of Columbus and Lonnie Fields of Edmonton, Ky.; a daughter, Melinda (Paul) Coomer of Columbus; grandchildren, Mark Mathis, Melissa Tipton, Mike Mathis, Matt Mathis, Devon (Stephanie) Fields, Heather Elmore, Joshua (Ashley) Coomer and Sarah Coomer; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a son, Al Fields on October 29, 2011; a daughter, Carole Mathis on April 17, 2012; brothers, Harold Knight and George Knight; and a sister, Florence McFarland.

To all of our cousins, so sorry for your loss.She’s reunited with Carlos and dad now.
Melinda and Boys, i just watched the video, it is beautiful. I wish I could be there to give her one last kiss and hug. My heart goes out to you. Love Mildred.

I want to express our deepest sympathy to her family and let you all know that you are in our prayers.. Aunt Selma will be dearly missed and she was loved by us all.. She was also a good cook, that’s what I remember most about her!!
