Sharon Ann Blair

Sharon Ann Blair, a cherished soul whose warmth and laughter touched all who knew her, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at the age of 80 in Columbus, Indiana. Born on September 12, 1944, to William Ewing Arnold and Velma Ester (Cook) Arnold in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sharon's journey was marked by her faith in God, dedication, love, and an infectious sense of humor that remained with her until her last moments. As a lifelong caregiver and a pillar of the Columbus Regional Hospital community, Sharon devoted over 50 years to nursing, beginning her storied career as a candy striper and eventually becoming a respected Licensed Practical Nurse. Her colleagues and patients alike will remember her not only for her exceptional skills and knowledge but also for the great nurse she was, always ready with a comforting word or a joke to lighten the mood. Sharon's life was a tapestry of love woven with the threads of family and friendship. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her son, William Arnold (Gina) Blair, and daughters, Stacey Deann (George) Gross and Kelly Michelle (Mike) Bledsoe, all of Columbus, Indiana. Her brothers, Steve (Donna) Arnold of Seymour, and Kevin (Angela) Arnold of Franklin, Indiana, will recall her fondly as a sister who always brought joy and laughter into their lives and was one of their biggest supporters. The light of Sharon's life shone brightly on her grandchildren, Heather (Karl) Wedan, Blair Bledsoe, Cheyenne Blair, and Bailey (Emily) Bledsoe. She was a playful and doting grandmother, always ready to share stories and create memories. Her great-grandchildren, Wesley Bledsoe and Holden Wedan (“The Boys”), will grow up with tales of her love, kindness, strong faith, and dedication to God. Sharon's zest for life extended well beyond her professional and family roles. As a young girl, she became a die-hard racing enthusiast. Starting out by watching the race cars her father owned (Midgets) and continued when her brothers started racing their own. Her pride in attending the Chili Bowl annually to watch her brother's race was unmatched. Her love of racing was extended to attending the Indianapolis 500 and watching her granddaughter Heather Drag Racing. She attended every ballgame, recital, sporting events, plays, etc. that her children and her grandchildren participated in. Everyone that knew Sharon knew of her love of God and studying his word. Whether she was attending Bible Study Fellowship or being a member of Community Church of Columbus, her love for God could be seen by all. Sharon was a creative soul. Her love of crafting included scrapbooking, carefully preserving memories and moments for future generations to cherish. Her travels took her across the globe, from the historic landscapes of Europe and Israel to the tropical bliss of Hawaii. Each journey was a chapter in her book of life, filled with adventure and discovery. Known among her friends and family as a great cook, Sharon's manicotti and signature biscuits and gravy were the highlights of many gatherings. Her culinary talents were just another way she expressed her love and care for those around her. Described best as loving, funny, and thoughtful, Sharon's presence was a gift to all who knew her. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of many through her selfless acts and compassionate nature. As we bid farewell to Sharon Ann Blair, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Her laughter, love, and light will continue to guide us, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her beloved family and the many lives she touched. Sharon's story is not one of an end but rather a lasting legacy of joy, love, and laughter that will forever resonate in the stories we share and the memories we hold dear. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 31, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. John Long officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the funeral home, along with one hour prior to service time on Thursday. The Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation Department Nursing Honor Guard will conduct a brief ceremony at 10:00 a.m. before the funeral honoring her service. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
