She was the daughter of Russell “Pete” Ray and Mary Ray.  She married James K. Dickey on June 14, 1959.  Sharon graduated from Columbus High School in 1956 and worked at Cummins for several years before starting a family. Sharon loved to bowl and played in several leagues. She also loved playing cards- especially bridge. She was an avid IU basketball fan and Indianapolis Colts fan. She also enjoyed watching the Pacers and any Big Ten basketball game.  She loved spending time with her family and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  Survivors include her son, Greg (Nickcola) Dickey of Ft. Wayne; her daughter, Julie (Nick) Woolls of Columbus; son-in-law, Brian Dieckmann of Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua (Maria) Dieckmann of Junction City, KS, Jennifer Dieckmann of Columbus, Amanda Eckert, Zachary Eckert and Christina Dickey all of Ft. Wayne; great-granddaughter, Allison Rose of Junction City, KS; sisters, Janice Ballinger and Nancy Ray of Columbus; and a nephew, Corey Bailey of Greensburg. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James K. Dickey; her daughter, Cheryl Dieckmann; and her brother, Jim Ray. The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on 25th Street in Columbus. Calling will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 30th and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

  1. Sharon and I were roommates at Four Season Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in 2016. We shared some good laughs and watched basketball together in our room as we whiled away the time. I will remember here with love.
