Sherman Ray Shook

Sherman Ray Shook, 67, formerly of Columbus, died peacefully at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Heritage House of Greensburg. Sherman was born March 23, 1949, in Osgood, the son of the late Charles Edward and Mildred Harper Shook. He graduated from Clarksburg High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps July 19, 1967. He proudly served his country for 32 years with the Marines, the U.S. Army and the Indiana National Guard, including tours of duty in Vietnam and with Desert Storm. Following his military career, Sherman was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union No. 1775. Sherman had been a friend of Bill W. since August 2, 1983, and was always willing to extend a hand of friendship to anyone he met. Survivors include his twin sister, Shirley Kay (Bill) Woolf of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Ronnie (Marilou) Harper of Darden Prairie, Missouri; nephews, Matt and Dan Harper; and several cousins. Sherman also leaves behind his many friends who he considered to be his extended family.






Sherman was always good to me. He spent many years serving our country. He will be missed.

Sherman was a cousin of my grandmother, Hazel Johnson McMichael Stiver. I enjoyed the times we were able to sit and have a good talk. A prayer of healing peace to Sherman’s family and friends.
Sherman will be greatly missed. He had a heart as big as the great outdoors. Going to miss you buddy!!!
I am blessed to have had Sherman in my life. He was a friend when I needed one most. I truly admired his wisdom and wit. God blessed you, Sherm!
I worked with Sherman for many years at Camp Atterbury and considered him a good friend. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace old friend
