Shirley Ann Sweasy
June 12, 1930 ~ October 25, 2022
Shirley Ann Sweasy, 92, of Columbus, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Hope. Shirley was born in Seymour, IN on June 12, 1930, to Clyde E. Compton and Ethel Marie (Henley) Compton. She married Harold Ray “Bud” Sweasy on December 23, 1949.
Shirley retired from Indiana Bell, now known as AT&T, after 29 years of service. She worked in many cities throughout Indiana including, Columbus, Greenwood, and New Albany, and held several different positions with the company. Shirley was a member of The Ridge Church, where she enjoyed worshipping the Lord for many years, as well as, the non-for-profit charity, Telephone Pioneers of America. Shirley also volunteered at Columbus Regional Hospital in her spare time. Her hobbies included working puzzles and crocheting, but most of all, spending time with her family and her AT&T co-workers.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Allman. Calling with be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time at 1:30 p.m. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her husband Harold at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana or the American Diabetes Association.
Survivors include her son, Terry L. (Pam) Sweasy of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Kyle Sweasy, Sierra Sweasy, Travis (Michelle) King, Lindsay (Brent) Devers and Brittany Stevenson; great grandchildren, Kayla King, Jaden Mckay, Jaxon Mckay, Amara Stevenson, Brooks Devers, Blake Devers and Briggs Devers; step great grandchildren, Malcolm Stevenson, Daila (Lane) Trimble, Tyler, Logan, Luke and Savannah Scott; son-in-law’s, Steve Warner and Kenny Williams both of Columbus, IN; cousin, James Stewart and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ethel Compton; husband, Harold “Bud” Sweasy, he died May 16, 2005; daughters, Barbara Ann Warner and Ginger Rae Williams; brother, Robert Compton and sisters, Betty Laraway and Doris O’Neal.






I remember going to Seymour Indiana every Thanksgiving and or Christmas. It was the highlight of my year, especially Aunt Shirley’s famous chocolate pie. I will miss her terribly. She was the sweetest. ♥️

Shirley was very special to me as I spent a lot of time at the Sweasy house growing up. Ginger and Barb were like my sisters and I loved them so much. I know they are all together once again. ❤️❤️❤️
I remember when they lived on fourth street, I would spend the night with Terry and the next morning I would make the family French Toast. Lots of laughter & Goodtimes!!!
