Shirley Kay Campbell Orman Murphy, 81, of Columbus, Indiana passed away Monday March 16, 2026 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Shirley was born November 19, 1944 in Charlestown, Indiana, the daughter of Richard O. and Kathleen I. Campbell.
Shirley was a long-time member of the East Columbus United Methodist Church and the Half Century Home Demonstration Club. She graduated from Charlestown High School in 1962, attended the University of Evansville and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Home Economics. Shirley had a life long love of camping. She loved cooking for everyone, especially for a house full of family and friends which made her full of happiness.
She married Ron Orman and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1990. Following his death, she blended two families together by marrying Robert Earl “Rob” Murphy on October 16, 1996 and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2025.
Funeral services celebrating Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday March 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service and Crematory with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside Ron in Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Columbus United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
Shirley leaves behind her sons, Richard “Doug” and Randal Dean Orman; grandchildren, Regan (Nolan) Crane, Gwen (Michael) Goins; great grandchildren, Justin Crane, Carter Crane, Kehgan Goins and Russell Goins. She is also survived by Rob’s family including his children, Lisa (Roger) Garland, Susan Murphy, Andrea Titus and Michael (Stacey) Murphy; his grandchildren, Diana (Chris) Edlin, Beth (Kyle Lane) Dunn, Deborah Garland, Hannah (Nick) Knobbe, Lindsey Murphy, Abigail Titus, Emily Titus, Daniel (Abby) Garland, Alexander Garland, Andrew Garland and Andrew Murphy and his great grandchildren, Ebenezer Edlin, Evelyn Edlin, Victoria Edlin, Liam Dunn and Beau Dunn. She had one niece, Laurie Ann Horne, whom she considered to be her little girl. Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents and a sister Margaret Ogden.
