Sidney Earl Hutsen April 05, 1616 - November 06, 2005 Sidney Earl Hutsen, 89, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at Jacksonville. Mr. Hutsen worked at Cummins Engine Co. before starting his own insurance business. He was involved in the insurance industry more than 35 years, serving as president of Professional Insurance Agents of Indiana in 1973 and on the legislative committee from 1978 to 1982. Active in the community, he was involved with the Boys Club as a young man and was a supporter of Boy Scouts, serving as troop committee chairman of Hoosier Hills Boy Scout Council. He was appointed by the mayor of Columbus to Columbuss first traffic commission at the time one-way streets were introduced in Columbus. He had been treasurer of First Presbyterian Church and president of Grandview Lot Owners Association and was a member of First Christian Church until moving to Florida where he became a member of Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. An avid sportsman and a Golden Glove boxing champion, Mr. Hutsen enjoyed diving, golf and tennis and raced sail boats and sail boards until he was 80 years old. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing. His example challenged every child and grandchild to do their best. Mr. Hutsen was born April 5, 1916, the son of Lora Mae Carter and Sidney Thomas Hutsen. He was born in Columbus where he lived for 81 years. He married Martha Louise Hill Aug. 23, 1941. Survivors include his wife; a son, Sidney Randolph Hutsen and wife Carolyn and grandsons Brandon and Courtney, of Oconomowoc, Wis.; a daughter, Karen Remmele and grandson Sean Schooley and his wife Stephanie and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Lacie and Mitchell, of Roswell, N.M.; daughter, Katherine Hutsen-Baumgart and her husband Rex and grandson Gabriel Hilt of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Suzanne Gaye and her husband Larry and grandson Christopher of Beaverton, Ore.; daughter, Jane Plank and husband James and grandson Jimmy V. and granddaughter Katie of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Lane and Dorothy Rittman.
