Theresa Marie Baugh
September 8, 1964 ~ April 1, 2021
Theresa Marie Baugh, 56, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.
Theresa was born September 8, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late William C. Ernest and Mary “Mollie” (Foley) Ernest. She married Paul D. Baugh on October 15, 2011 and the two of them considered each other to be the loves of their lives.
Theresa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose most important thing in life was her family and devotion to God. Her children were the center of her life and all she did was with a thought toward what was in their best interests. She was an active member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and volunteered with several community outreach programs such as Cheer Fund, The Love Chapel and the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches. Theresa was driven to help people, whether in her professional career as a nurse practitioner or her personal life where she was known for her generosity and willingness to offer her time wherever she could be of help. One of her favorite quotes that she frequently shared with her family was “one kind act a day changes the world” and she was a perfect example of that thought. She was fun-loving and always ready to play a practical joke. She loved animals and her fur-babies (Sadie, Doolittle, Coco, Jack, Jersey, Caesar, Stu and The Crew) were an extension of her family. Theresa enjoyed traveling and considered Myrtle Beach and Mackinac Island her homes away from home. She loved the holidays (and included Halloween as a holiday) hosting gatherings for family and friends. Theresa will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon Monday April 5, 2021 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Chris Wadelton officiating and Deacon Bill Jones assisting. Calling will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday April 4 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. to Noon before Mass at St. Bartholomew. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church would like to thank everyone in advance for wearing masks and practicing social distancing while attending gatherings.
For those unable to attend the mass, Theresa’s service will be live streamed on the church website: saintbartholomew.org.
Following the service Monday, everyone is invited to the family home for a cookout and time to further celebrate Theresa’s life.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Bartholomew County Humane Society.
Theresa is survived by her husband Paul D. Baugh, her children Derrick J. Thrash, Travis W.C. (Mary) Thrash, both of Columbus, Brittney L. Thrash of Jacksonville, Florida, and Logan S. (Anna) Thrash of Lovettsville, Virginia, step-children Paul R. Baugh of Fishers and Shelby J. Baugh of Bloomington, sisters Mary (William) Muir of Reading, Pennsylvania, Dot Canoles of Pasadena,

My baby sister, Theresa, was a woman who loved life, family and the Lord. She was either working, volunteering, worshipping, or having family gatherings. She loved all people and wanted to save the world. As a nurse practitioner she did save some people, my husband was one of them. I can’t put the words together to express how much we loved her and how hard it will be to live without her.
We are comforted knowing that she now resides in the arms of our Heavenly Father and in a blink of an eye we will be together again.

When I think of my God Mother, I think of Proverbs 31:25-26 “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with no fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and her kindness is the rule when she gives instructions.”
Theresa was an amazing child of God, who radiated strength, dignity, fearlessness, wisdom, and kindness. (except when it came to football 😊)
Having some similar life experiences, she was someone I looked up to. She always supported my path and encouraged me.
But it wasn’t I alone! She was someone many sought out for support, advise, comfort and insight.
With this, I was drawn to the story of the Sunflower. The sunflower, in it’s life, grows from a tiny seed to a large plant. Mature sunflowers grow a bud, and eventually the bud blooms into those large, 6 foot tall friendly and vibrant flowers we all know so well.
During its prime, it welcomes pollinators to share its nectar. But its primary purpose and objective of its entire life is producing as many healthy seeds as possible.
After the blossom withers, it’s seeds feed birds and other wildlife. Some seeds fall and nestle into the ground. Ultimately sprouting a new sunflower. The end of one thing is the beginning of another.
We each will pass from our physical lives eventually, but the patterns of nature teach us that death is only a small part of the cycle. Some look at death with fear and sadness, but as Christians, we should take solace for death is not the end of our story, only the beginning. Jesus has already conquered death, and he died so that we shall not die spiritually.
John 11:25 says “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even after dying.”
We are not coming to an end, but to a new existence.
My aunt is like a sunflower; mature, bright, friendly, and vibrant. Her laughter was contagious, her sense of humor was fabulous, and she had an amazing tenacity for life!
She fulfilled her purpose, and we are blessed by the nectar she instilled in us during her life.
But just as the sunflower’s seeds fed the birds, so shall her seeds of love, kindness, and faithfulness feed us and continue blessing us, and all who knew her. Take heart in knowing that we will reunite with her one day. May her memory encourage our paths and sprout new sunflowers in our lives.
I love you dear sweet God Mother!
Until we meet again!

Today is a very sad day. Unfortunately the world lost a amazing woman today but heaven gained a angel.
My aunt Theresa Baugh died this morning at 4:35am. Cancer took her way to soon. Fitting that it rained all day today.
Aunt Terry I love you so much Halloween and myrtle beach will never be the same without you. But my memories with you will be eternal. I find myself listening to ace of base like we used to and I even bought stories to tell in the dark book that we used to read on all of our road trips. I miss you so much already…. I love you. I’ll see you again soon enough.

The world lost a very special woman on April 1st. Theresa was so loving and cared for others before herself. She was not only a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, and friend but also a devoted follower of God. She loved the Lord and is now resting in His loving arms surrounded by the family and friends who met her at the gates of Heaven. May she Rest In Peace until we meet again. Love you.

Praying for PD, her children and all the family and friends. My heart aches for all of you, even while we rejoice in her receiving eternal life and peace with our Lord and Savior. I was only around Theresa a handful of times, but she was the type of person that being around her even once would be a blessing in life. Even in my brief interactions with her, she made me feel like she sincerely cared for the well-being of each individual with whom she came in contact in life. A vibrant personality, caring, attentive to the needs of others, positive attitude, and a wonderful smile are all things that came to mind when I first met her. I remember thinking, “what a wonderful woman for PD.” In a sermon I once heard, the pastor preached about living our lives intentionally. The message was that as Christians, we need to approach EACH and EVERY day in an intentional way, with purpose and meaning. Although the time I ever spent in-person with Theresa was minimal, she is one of the few people I have personally met that would come to mind when thinking of someone who truly lived life intentionally. Those of you who were close to her witnessed this on a daily basis, but it was evident to many others of us through conversations with friends and family, as well as observing through Facebook. When Christians live intentionally, as she did, countless lives are touched and blessed. Seeds are planted and watered. What a wonderful life when someone can have such a positive impact with just one, or perhaps just a few, interactions with people.
Theresa was my neighbor back in the 1990’s and she was a single mom with four young children. I enjoyed her as a neighbor and talking with her children. I was so sorry to hear of Theresa’s passing and will keep her family in my prayers during this difficult time. I’m sorry that I’m not able to come to the calling. I will always remember her and her young children. I know she was proud of her family. Years pass, but memories remain the same.
Theresa completed our family. She will forever be missed and loved. I love you, Theresa.

How do you say goodbye until we meet again in heaven? “T” was truly an exceptional woman as to go thru so many trials as a young woman raising three wonderful children, educating herself. She has been thru the fire and came out standing strong. I have known and loved her for many years. I can say how lucky I am to have known her both as family and friend. She literally has saved my life from analyzing symptoms over the phone. She has always been for family an friends. I truely love her and will greatly miss her for now. But I know she will remain with us in our hearts and minds, I look forward to seeing her again in heaven I love you “T”
