Thomas John Kooiman
September 14, 1968 ~ October 16, 2022
Thomas John Kooiman, 54, of Columbus, passed away Sunday October 16, 2022 at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born September 14, 1968 in Long Beach, CA, the son of Gene Arnold Kooiman and Marjorie Anne Teeters Kooiman. He married Michelle Lee Dooley on July 10, 1993 and she survives. Tom and Michelle had two daughters, Lori and Kacie.
Tom was an avid Dodgers fan. It was rare to see him without a Dodgers hat; he was convinced that he bled blue. Tom was a wonderful dad and a father figure to many people throughout his life including his niece, Brittany Johnson. Tom and Michelle were best friends, the type of friends that bickered occasionally but were also there for each other no matter what. Tom was able to strike up a conversation with whomever he met and showed affection by teasing and jokes. He was known for his “Tommy tacos,” and said you only knew they were good when the grease ran down your arms. Tom was an animal lover and will be missed by his dog, Snoopy. Tom did many things for work including managing pizza restaurants, swimming pool repairman and quality manager in manufacturing. Tom’s employees and coworkers valued him as a friend and coworker.
Tom is survived by his wife, Michelle; his mother Marjorie Anne Kooiman; daughters, Lori (Sean) Scrivnor and Kacie (Chloe Perez) Kooiman; sisters, Karen (Tim) Hangen and Jeanie (Pete) Dumont and brothers, Jim (Joyce) Kooiman, Bill (Kathleen) Kooiman. His adopted brother John Stambaugh. Tom was preceded in death by his father.

My brother-in-law was Tom’s father- in-law and that is how I met Tom and he was one of the friendliest guys and I always liked him. The last time I saw him was at my sister’s house when his father-in-law was dying with brain cancer. I never would’ve dreamed he would be gone shortly after. Prayers for all who loved him and will miss him always.
Rest in peace brother!
