Thurman Buel Fields, 96, of Columbus, passed away at 1:03 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Buel was born on August 2, 1925 in Edmonton, KY to Evan Samuel Fields and Loney Dee Shirley Fields. He married Velma Marie Poore on January 31, 1947. Buel retired from the Golden Foundry. He was an original member of Lowell General Baptist Church, where he was very active. He sang in the gospel group, “The Fields Family Singers” and was a wonderful and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Lowell General Baptist Church with Brothers, Roger Poynter and Ronnie Hampton officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Buel will be laid to rest beside his wife Velma at Old Union Cemetery. Buel had a passion for music, so the family ask that memorial contributions be made to WYGS to help support the spreading of the gospel or to the Lowell General Baptist Church. Survivors include his children, Danny D. (Jennifer) Fields, Joyce M. (Jim) Adams, Connie S. (Terry) England, Gary W. (Patty) Fields and Larry D. (Jacqueline) Fields all of Columbus, IN; daughter-in-law, Diana Fields of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Scott Fields, Kelly Ulreich, Betsy Rhodes, Matt Fields, Natasha Dulong, Danielle Stevens, Jeremy Adams, Chasity Adams, Aleisha Hennsley, Chris England, Brandon Fields, Jeff Fields, Nathan Fields and Thomas Fields; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brothers, Stanley Fields of Columbus, IN and J.W. McCawley of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Evan Fields; mother, Loney Fields; step-mother, Ira Mae Fields; wife, Velma Fields on June 30, 2016; son, Evan Eugene Fields; brothers, Dennis Fields and Arlis Fields; sister, Angeline Bragg THE FAMILY APPRECIATES EVERYONE THAT IS ABLE TO ATTEND BUEL’S SERVICES BUT ARE ASKING EVERYONE, PLEASE WEAR MASKS AT THE FUNERAL HOME AND AT THE CHURCH.

  1. Brother buel was a great inspiration to so many people. I always loved to hear him sing the song I’m not getting older just getting closer to home.

    • He always loved that I called him Uncle Bill when I was very young. You will be missed l. We love you!

  2. I remember spending many weekends in church with Buel and Velma with my grandparents. We spend many Friday nights at their home. There was always open arms and love there when you walked in the door. He was wonderful example to grow up around.

  3. Brother Burl will be deeply missed. Ronnie and I Adored his love for the Lord, in singing and in all the ways he witnessed for God.💙💙

  5. I have so many memories of this family. He was a true man of God. He was loved by so many. He will always have a special place in my heart. I’m going to miss him. May God give you all peace and comfort and may God bless you all.
