MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Elks Cancer Fund Timothy D. McKinney, 68, of Lynwood Court, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Tim was born March 25, 1946, in Marion, Indiana, the son of Harlan and Betty Jo Weimer McKinney. He married Sherleen "Sherri" Silverman December 31, 1971. Tim graduated from Columbus High School and then from Central Missouri State University. He was employed at Arvin Industries as Product Manager of the Housewares Division and later worked as a salesman for Hull's Office Supplies, Medicab of Kentucky-Indiana, The Office Shop and Arnett Insurance. Tim was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler as well as District Deputy Past Exalted Ruler; Hope Masonic Lodge No. 150, Bartholomew County Shrine Club, Murat Shine, 500 Shrine Club, the Scottish Rite, Kowad Al Sabikin, and the Shrine Classic Car Club. He was a U.S.A.C. Official in timing and scoring for the Indianapolis 500 for many years. Tim's love of auto racing began as a child when his father purchased a midget and built a race track in their back yard. That love continued throughout his life. Tim wrote a weekly auto racing column for The Republic for many years. He enjoyed writing about the many local race car drivers.A Masonic Memorial Service, White Flag Ceremony and Elks Memorial Service will begin at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Tim worked tirelessly to support the research program provided by the Elks Cancer Fund (Elks State Project) and he was pleased to know that 100 percent of the money received went to cancer research. A celebration of Tim's life will be conducted at the Elks Lodge on Monday, January 12, starting at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks Cancer Fund. Survivors include his wife, Sherleen; brother, Troy McKinney, and his wife Pamela Alms, of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff McKinney; and sister, Cheryl McKinney Murrin.
