Velma L. Green

Velma L. Green, 84, of Columbus, died at 9:45p.m. July 20, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Velma was born January 10, 1933, in Columbus, the daughter of Sherman Martin and Lucille Ragan McQueen. She first married George Swim, who preceded her in death. She was then married to Jim Green Sr. She was a member of First Assembly of God, loved shopping and was an excellent cook. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Velma had loved taking care of the grandchildren when they were younger and was very devoted to her family. The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Edwards officiating. Calling will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to help cover final expenses through the funeral home. Survivors include her second husband, Jim Green Sr. of Columbus; sons, Malcom (Margret) Swim of Columbus, Michael (Bev Barrett) Green of Columbus, Robert Green of Columbus and Jimmy (Kim) Green of Nineveh; daughters, Kathy (Mike) Burton of Columbus, Betty (Ed) Bates of Columbus and Lisa Green (Lanny Lovins) of Seymour; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, George; daughters, Gail Edwards and Mary Lou Green; and a granddaughter, Mary Lou Swim Simmons.

What a great person enjoyed the times I got to spend and talk to her. Definitely will be missed by many..
