Velma Louise Scofield Hearne Lykins, 79, of 26th Street died at 8:11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lykins was a member of the Ecumenical Assembly and United Methodist Women where she had held many offices, including president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. She was one of the founders of Love Chapel and was involved in many other charities.
She was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a member of Womens Home Economics Club and a former Cub Scout leader.
She worked making military equipment at Arvin Industries during World War II and was a former employee of Cummins Engine Co., Columbus North and East High schools and Richards Elementary School.

Born in Indianapolis April 10, 1926, Mrs. Lykins was the daughter of Homer and Mary Enid Selch Scofield. She married Durward Hearne June 28, 1946. He died Nov. 7, 1988. She married James Punk Lykins Jan. 18, 1992. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Brian (Jeannie) Hearne of Bloomington, Brett (Kim) Hearne of Columbus and Dennis (Janet) Hearne of Shelbyville; a daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Arford of Columbus; grandchildren, Gisele Gillaspy, Nicole Sturgill and Patrick, Meagan, K.B., Matthew, Chad, Jessica and Tyler Hearne; great-grandchildren, Olivia Rose Hearne and Alex Sturgill; and a sister, Maribell Andrews of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and a brother, Homer Scofield Jr.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Kamman officiating.
VISITATION: 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery.
