May 14, 1916 ~ April 6, 2009

Vera L. Rouse May 14, 1916 - April 06, 2009 Mom was preceded in death by our Dad, her Husband and Life Partner of 50 years, Paul L. Rouse in July of 1992, her Brothers Dale F. Hennon, Richard E. Hennon, her Sister Myra Jean Taylor and her Brother Robert D. Hennon. She is survived by her Son, Paul S. (Steve) Rouse of Denver, her Daughter, Elizabeth S. (Rouse) Tieman of Bloomington and her Brother David K. Hennon of Indianapolis; also her Grandchildren, Zachary P. Rouse of Blue Lake, California, Shaun P. Tieman of Greendale, Indiana, Elysia C. Tieman of Bloomington and her Great Granddaughter, Elizabeth Zoe Sloan-Rouse of Blue Lake, California. A country girl right down to the ground, Mom was the eldest of six children born to Doyle and Edith Hennon in Switz City. An avid gardener who had no fear in taking on extraordinarily ambitious plots of fertile land and nurturing from them a wonderful bounty of homegrown Indiana vegetables, fruits and flowers, she just loved diggin in the dirt and was an expert at culturing the best, richest compost you can possibly imagine. She met her future husband, Paul, a city boy from Indianapolis, when they worked together at the Division of Employment Security in Indianapolis. They later moved to Los Angeles where Steve was born. Then, knowing that Bloomington was a better place to raise a family, they returned to Indiana where Elizabeth was born. She was a stay-at-home Mom while we were young, but once we were out of Grade School and into Junior High, she returned to work at IU in the Office of University School (where she could continue to keep a watchful eye on Steve and Liz). When U-School relocated to the new campus at 10th and the Bypass, she went along as Administrative Assistant to the Director (still keeping an eye on the kids). After we were out of school, she worked in the Accounting Department at IU as a Bookkeeper. Somewhere along the line, she also found time to assist Dad with retouching negatives and hand oil coloring black and white photographs. She also did some oil and watercolor painting in her early years and enjoyed knitting, quilting, ceramics, pottery and even had a potters wheel at one point. She was a huge IU Basketball fan, became fascinated with genealogy in her later years, played the piano and organ, and was a whiz at crossword puzzles right up to the end. Mom was an intelligent, strong willed, talented gal with a great sense of humor, a deep abiding belief in God and had a strong sense of responsibility for her family. She was a devoted, loving Wife and Mother - her family was her life. Mom has always been there for us, from the moment we took our first breaths until the moment she took her last and we are now gasping for air in the enormous vacuum left by the departure of her wonderful big Spirit to return to her Heavenly Father to await the Return of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral Information SERVICES: Private graveside service at Switz City Cemetery, Saturday, April 18th, to be followed by a Memorial Celebration of Veras life.
