Spiker, 88, of Virginia St., died at 5:45 A.M. June 28, 2014, at his home. Verlyn was born January 25, 1926 in Brown County, the son of Henry Wesley and Emma Fae Hovis Spiker. Verlyn graduated from Van Buren High School, class of 1944. He celebrated his 70th Class Reunion where he was the oldest graduate present. Verlyn was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #20 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine, and was a Past President in both the Bartholomew County Shrine, and the Bartholomew County Scottish Rite. He was awarded the honor of Kentucky Colonel for his fundraising for the Shrine Children's Hospital in Lexingon. Verlyn was a member of the Diesel Workers Union. As a dedicated production worker, he was a member of the generation of workers that helped build the foundation of Cummins Engine Company, making it a world wide engine provider and Fortune 500 company. Verlyn was also an active lifelong member in the Democrat Party. Survivors include daughters Pat (Cam) Williamson of Columbus, Pam (Eric) Sample of Columbus, & Sherri (David) Spiker-Cowan of Columbus; grandchildren Suzette Burton of Texas, Tamara Mozo of Seymour, Laura Lanori, William Williamson, Christina Marie Allen, Shannon Edward Lee, Corey O'Ryan Cowan, & Jacqueline O. Cowan all of Columbus; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister Irene Barnett of Columbus.. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Luella Spiker..

My grandfather will forever live in my heart and memories I was bless to have known a wonderful man and to be a part of his life adventure for so long he wasnt just my grandfather he was my bestfriend. Were u could find him I was right beside I love u grandpa with all my heart
