Veston E. Roberts

Veston E. Roberts, 80, Columbus, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; they rest from their labors and their works follow them” (Revelation 14:13). Veston was born July 18, 1940, on the shores of the beautiful downtown Jabez, KY, to the late Joe and Bessie Stephens Roberts. Proud of his Kentucky heritage, he said he would “renew his citizenship” each year when he attended the Roberts Family Reunion. He and his wife Connie were a much-loved presence at every reunion they attended. He married Connie Hamilton Roberts on September 1, 1980, in Columbus, and she survives. In 1954, his family moved to a farm in Martinsville, Indiana, and then to Franklin. Veston graduated from Nineveh High School in 1958. After high school graduation, he faithfully served in the U.S. Army from October 6, 1958, until October 5, 1964. Upon being discharged from the military, he went to work for Cummins Engine Company. Over the course of the next 33 years he advanced from the burr bench to parts schedule planner, one of the top hourly positions in the company. He retired in 1997. Veston is remembered as a man of faith. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He was a generous family man who was willing to do without just to see that those he cared about the most had whatever they needed. He was also an avid NASCAR fan with a particular passion for Tony Stewart. He is also survived by his daughter, April (Dan) Cohen of Columbus; his son, Tony (Susan) Roberts of Columbus; his step-daughter, Michelle (Jeremy) Findley of Columbus; step-son, Joseph (Kelsey) Clark of Columbus; brothers, Jack (Margaret) Roberts of Mansfield,IL, and Larry (Linda) Roberts of Tierre Verde, FL; sisters, Rosalene (Richard) Harper of Sun City, AZ and Betty (Jose) Fernandez of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Amber Sutton, Brynne (Jeremy) Berghen, Arthur Cohen, Ashley (Chris) Collins, Trevor Cohen, Sarah (Myron) Freed, Grace North, Caleb, Hannah, Trent, Emily, Mackenzie, Isabelle, and Hannnah; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Aiden, Brooklyn, Dawson, Parker, Ruthanna, Lyndell, Michael, Heidi, and Nora. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that masks be worn and safe physical distance be observed. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home home page. Pastor Marvin Brown will officiate. Internment will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
