Virginia L. Dickey, 85, of Seymour, died at 3 a.m. Jan. 28, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Virginia was a loving person who enjoyed outside activities, especially camping, hiking and swimming. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. A 1946 graduate of Columbus High School, she worked at Indiana Bell Telephone Co. then retired from Columbus Regional Hospital where she was a switchboard operator for 20 years. She was a member of Reddington Christian Church. Born in Madison Aug. 12, 1928, Virginia was the daughter of Frank E. "Monk" Tewell and Thelma L. Quillen Tewell. She married Claude "Bud" Dickey Aug. 26, 1966. Survivors include her husband; a son, Steven M. Day of San Diego, CA; daughters, Bonita L. Robertson of Franklin, IN, Melody Kriete, Natalie Day and Megan McKinney, all of Brownstown, IN; stepdaughters, Cindy and Shari Dickey of North Vernon, IN; grandchildren, Jessica Robertson Cody, Keely Robertson Leach, Britney Dickey, Justin Day, Jenifer Day Healy, Kyle Day and Candyce Day; and sisters, Katheryn Loose of Kingman, AZ, Martha Franklin of New Castle, IN, and Linda Lockwood of Wichita Falls, TX. She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis E. Tewell. Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Cremation is planned.
